Mountain Lochan Algae 2002: Intro.

These samples were collected for me by Mark Megaughin while carrying out his MSc Biology of Water Resource Management research project this summer.
The project was a survey of fish and invertebrates in high altitude mountain lochans in Scotland, carried out at the Freshwater Fisheries Laboratory, Pitlochry, in relation to the European Commission's EMERGE project.

Thanks to Mark also for these photographs of the sites:

This set of algal samples is not part of the EMERGE programme, but the EMERGE codes for the lakes has been used.

The samples proved extremely interesting and challenging, and some taxa have still to be positively identified.
