Net and Coble fishing for Salmon

Cromarty, 2000

The net is laid out perpendicular to the shore using a small rowing boat (coble). The net has floats at the top and is weighted at the bottom.

The boat loops back to the shore bringing the end of the rope holding the net. The fishermen hope salmon swimming up the coast towards a river will have been encircled by the net

The fishermen start to pull the net in. The tractor winch is used to aid the process.

As the net is finally landed, the fishermen find out if a fish has been caught or not.

And the effort has been rewarded: a salmon is landed.

The catch in close-up.
