Field Course


1. To acquire practical skills through field work.

2. To carry out a research project in the field.

Module content:

A 1- week residential field course in the Algarve, Portugal, during which students will practice (under supervision) the methods of research in a terrestrial and / or aquatic habitat. Some on site informal lectures will be given, but teaching will be primarily in the field. Students will produce a field notebook and design, implement and report on a research project undertaken in the field.

A second week of field work in Scotland allows the demonstration of specialist techniques such as electrofishing.

  Costs to students: £200 for the Algarve course
