The course is composed of 6 taught modules and a research project. Full time students undertake 3 modules in trimester 1 (Oct – Jan) and another 3 in trimester 2 (Feb – May) followed by the project over trimester 3 (June – Sept).

In order to gain the important practical skills associated with this course, there are periods when you are asked to attend field courses of up to 2 weeks. All the students (both full-time and part-time) and staff will get together either in Edinburgh or at a field centre in Scotland or abroad. These will take place in Oct/Nov and in March/April.

Full-time route modules:

Trimester 1 -
Scientific Methods
Marine Ecosystems,
Freshwater Ecosystems and Fisheries.

Trimester 2 -
Sustainable Catchment Management
Choice of 2 modules from:
Environmental Quality Assessment
Biodiversity and Conservation
Field and Laboratory Skills

Trimester 3 - Research Project (June-September)
